The Salmon River Central School District serves approximately 1,400 students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. It is a small rural school district located in the northernmost reaches of New York State. Nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and on the shore of the Saint Lawrence, the district serves students from the towns of Fort Covington, Bombay, Brasher, Bangor and Westville, as well as from the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation.
The education program is housed in two separate facilities. The campus complex, which houses the Salmon River Elementary, Salmon River Middle School and Salmon River High School, is located in Fort Covington. The St. Regis Mohawk School, a Pre-K through grade 5 school, is located in Akwesasne. Surrounded by the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, the school serves approximately 350 Mohawk children.
The district is proud to provide students with a comprehensive educational program along with special services from the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) of Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Counties.
Thanks to Title VI and the Johnson O’Malley federally-funded programs, Salmon River CSD provides educational enrichment programming for its Mohawk student population, which comprises 63 percent of the total school enrollment. Salmon River is one of 13 districts within New York State which contracts to provide an education to its Native American students, with a commitment to preserve the Mohawk tradition, culture and language within the school system.
The Salmon River Central School District values academic achievement, cultural diversity, and celebrates individuality within a safe, supportive learning environment.
