Now that students have some early admission application submissions under their belt, they may take a fresh look at their college lists. This is especially true if they didn’t get into the schools that they were expecting to. Luckily, there are still schools that offer late admission deadlines that give students another chance at getting accepted to a university that fits their academic and career goals.
High school seniors applying to colleges can still add these schools with late admission deadlines.
Some colleges with late admission deadlines will have rolling admissions; this means they will consider applicants as they apply until their class is filled. While it is advantageous to apply earlier in the cycle, if a school has a rolling deadline, you can often apply late into the summer.
Applying late could affect the amount of aid you receive. In general, applying for aid earlier will be more beneficial. Many schools have earlier deadlines to receive scholarships. For example, the University of Southern California requires its students to apply to the university by November 1 or December 1 if they want access to the merit scholarships. Students who apply later than that date might lose out on scholarship funds.
For the FAFSA, some states and colleges will still grant money to students even if they apply late. However, they might get less than students who applied earlier. The FAFSA opens in October and the end of June is the federal deadline for applying. We advise our students to apply as soon as it opens, however, applying late is better than not applying at all.
