Fans of Doc Martin are preparing to say goodbye to the grumpy Dr Martin Ellingham as the final series airs. After first appearing on our screens in the role back in September 2004 - over eighteen years ago now - Martin Clunes will be wishing Portwenn goodbye as 2022 draws to a close.
For nearly two decades, ITV filming crews have descended upon the small fishing village of Port Isaac, which is situated on Cornwall's Atlantic north coast. Every year, many fans of the show flock to the village, hoping to see some of the iconic Doc Martin filming locations, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the grumbling GP himself.
As viewers are given their final dose of the Doc, fans may be contemplating heading to Cornwall to see some of the locations used in the production of the drama, of which there is set to be a Christmas special and a celebratory documentary this festive season. Here are some of the Port Isaac locations used in the filming of the show.
Perhaps one of the most recognisable locations from the long-running ITV series, Fern Cottage attracts fans from all over the world, having dutifully served as Dr Ellingham's surgery in the show. If you find yourself in Port Isaac, you can reach Fern Cottage by walking 100 metres past the harbour and up the hill towards the coast path for Port Quin, according to Visit Cornwall. The traditional cottage can also be rented out by fans of the show when it is not being used for filming.
If fans cast their minds way back to the final episode of the fifth series of Doc Martin, they may remember when Mrs Tishell, owner of Portwenn Pharmacy, professed her love to Dr Ellingham at this tiny yet magical castle in Port Quin, which can be rented out by holidaymakers through the National Trust. Doyden Castle is a romantic spot for any couple to visit, so you can't exactly blame Mrs Tishnell for making it the spot she revealed her lengthy crush on the grumpy GP.
Known as 'the Cathedral of the Moor', this beautiful 12th century church was where Doc Martin was left at the altar on the day he was due to marry Louisa, although things went much better the second time around. St Nonna's Church lies in a stunning location next to Altranun village green.
There are a few private residences which play an important part in the show. These include a house by the name of Little Dolphins in Middle Street, which serves as Mrs Tishell's pharmacy, and Louisa's home can be found in Fore Street.
